Steph Schmidt

Chair, term expires 2027

Education is Stephanie (Steph) Schmidt's passion! She believes there are few things more rewarding than empowering amazing teens. Steph currently serves as the Executive Director at Early Light Academy, where she puts her full support behind the high-quality education that students (including her own children) receive at charter schools throughout the state.

Steph earned an associate's degree from Snow College and a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education (Social Studies Composite) from Utah State University. While in college, she served on the Board of Directors for the National Student Association of Community Colleges, advocating for higher education and lobbying U.S. senators and representatives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

She went on to teach history and geography at a junior high school in Brigham City and at Lifeline for Teens, a treatment center where she worked with students navigating challenges such as behavioral disorders, drug involvement, and eating disorders.

When she's not with students, Steph can be found working the family business every spring and fall at Schmidt's Farm & Greenhouse. She loves spending time outdoors: hiking, biking, camping, and gardening with her husband and kids.
